It’s a lovely, sunny day, with a light breeze and no one else in sight. You’re free to let your mind wander, building imaginary castles in the air and playing out epic battles, plotting out the next chapter of your novel, mapping out a journey you might or might not take - Wait, is someone calling your name? Daydreaming can be a fun way to pass the time, but sometimes it comes with a price! If you’re daydreaming, you’re not paying attention to whatever else you’re doing – and sometimes that can be a big problem. Do your characters daydream? What do they daydream about? Do they miss anything important while they’re doing it? Write a story about daydreaming. If your submission features the wind, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting! |

It’s been a long, dangerous voyage, through storms and rough waters, past obstacles and opponents (sea monsters? Enemy ships? Dimensional portals?). But finally, a familiar sight comes into view, and you know that the worst of the journey is past. You’ve reached a safe harbor. It doesn’t have to be a literal harbor, of course. It could be the final exit off the highway after a multi-week road trip from hell, or the first sign of familiar houses as you take a well-worn path home after too long away, or the sight of an old friend coming to greet you in a crowd of hostile strangers. The important part is that you know the worst is over; you’re safe now, or close enough. Write a story about a safe harbor (literal or metaphorical). If your submission features seagulls, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting! |
